Date sugar is often produced in oriental countries and is made 100% from ripe, pitted dates. The fully dried fruit flesh is finely ground to create date powder. Scientifically speaking, date sugar is not a true sugar, but is also referred to as date syrup.
Date sugar has a comparable sweetness to refined sugar and can therefore be used as a substitute for conventional sugar. However, date sugar does not dissolve completely in beverages and is therefore less suitable for this purpose.
Date syrup has a natural, subtle date flavor and a pleasant caramel note. Compared to conventional sugar, it contains a higher proportion of minerals and vitamins as well as fiber, making it a wholesome sugar. Date sugar is excellent for baking and cooking.
